MAINTENANCE
Keeping good care of carpet tiles will not only extend the life of any carpet tile investment it will also help to preserve its aesthetic
appeal for longer.
Tiles under office chairs with castors must be fully adhered and we recommend protective pads to preserve appearance
retention.
Regular vacuuming is the essential first step to the upkeep of the installation. Heavy traffic areas require more frequent
vacuuming than those areas, which are less frequented. Twin motor vacuums are preferable, as they provide better results,
however they are unsuitable for some needle punched and luxury carpet with a directional pile. For these carpet types, suction
only vacuum must be used. For heavy traffic areas, vacuuming must be undertaken daily to avoid soil build-up, medium and low
traffic areas should be vacuumed once every two days. A daily spot and stain removal process should also be implemented
using a neutral spotting detergent.
Spills present a serious threat to the appearance retention of the carpet installation and should be dealt with immediately.
The stain should not be allowed to dry, as this can make removal more difficult. The following method should be applied as soon
as possible following the spillage.
For solid and semi solid spills, gently remove as much of the surface stain as possible using a spatula or a spoon. Do not use
any implement that can cut or damage the pile. For liquid spills use white absorbent paper and dab gently over the spill to remove as much liquid as possible.
In both cases always work from the outside of the stain towards the centre to avoid spreading the stain. Do
not rub the stain as this can force the stain deeper into the pile, and could also damage or distort the pile.
Once all the surface stain has been removed, using a neutral spotting detergent and a clean cloth or white absorbent paper,
gently dab over the stain from the outside towards the centre, continue to work over the stain until no more of the spill can be
removed. Once this has been completed use a fresh dry cloth to remove the fluff and spotting liquid from the stain area. Ensure
that all of the liquid has been removed by rinsing out the cloth in warm water and repetaing. Place a pad of absorbent paper
over the stain site, to remove the remainder of the water. Weigh the pad down slightly to ensure good contact with the carpet.
When the area has dried out completely, remove the pad and vacuum or brush the area to restore the pile.
If the stain has not completely gone, repeat the process.
